The systems is very flexible, but it all comes down to how you want to manage inventory and invoice.
We support three four of units of measure:
- Eaches: Bags, Boxes, Tray, Filet Can, Each, Pack, Jug, Basket, etc.
- All "Eaches" can also have an optional packaging description to describe what's inside the container for tag and label printing (very important for shellfish)
- Ex: A Clam distributor thinks about inventory and sales using bags of various weights or counts. 100 Count Bag of Littlenecks or 50# Bag of Chowders.
- Weight: Lb, Oz, Kg, g
- Ex: A seafood wholesalers may buy and sell all fin fish by the pound.
- Volume: Gallons, Fl. Oz., Pints
- Ex: A shellfish distributor may buy and sell shucked clams by the gallon. However you could also consider that an Each if it's packaged and you want to track them by the jug or can.
- Ex: An Oyster Farm may inventory and sell their oysters by the piece. Animal: Piece, Dozens
Different Units for Different Steps in the Process.
You may not always be able to consistently handle an item using one unit of measure, so we support being able to make things more granular with different types of units of measure:
- Buying Unit of Measure
- Inventory Unit of Measure
- Selling Unit of Measure
Example: You may buy Scallops by the Pound and sell them by the Piece. In this example you would need to setup a conversion so we know around how much each piece weighs or how many pieces per Lb.
Coming soon: A conversion between different items to handle the cases when you don't ALWAYS sell those scallops by the piece, just sometimes.
Why Units of Measure and Conversions Matter: Inventory!
If you want to keep accurate track of what you have on hand, we need to establish clear units of measure. Maybe you inventory by the bag, by the piece, and by the pound - cool, we can handle that. Setup a time to meet with us to get onboard, we'll help you work through all the details.
Examples of item creation and quantity definition
In this case we have a Bag with 100 Pieces inside the Bag.
In this case we have a Scallops that's received and inventoried in 50# bags. Then sold by the piece. Generally you have to say about how much of a bag 1 piece is for the conversion to work.
