How do I create a Catch Weight Items?

A "case of salmon fillets" might contain 10 fillets, but each one weighs a slightly different amount — one might be 1.8 lbs, another 2.3 lbs.

In BlueTrace items can be configured as a Catch Weight item.

  • The product is tracked by both a count (units/pieces) and an actual weight or count
  • Pricing is based on the actual weight/count of what's shipped, not an estimated or fixed weight

To Create a Catch Weight Item: Set the Inventory Quantity as a "Catch Weight" item.

  1. Choose the "Counting Unit" (typically a box, fish, or bag): This is the unit that someone orders "I need 3 boxes of Salmon".

  2. Choose the "Variable Unit":  This is the unit that you will use to invoice the client.  Typically this is lbs or kgs.
